That's right, Wafer Paper Light Up Houses!
I have this vivid memory of nostalgia - I was a child, back when the lights and decorations really truly pulled me into a different world. That warm and fuzzy world that only Christmas decor, music, and family can create. My parents always decked our house out, like someone threw up Christmas spirit all over it! The kind that would make pre-saved Grinch have an aneurysm. You get the idea 😉 Anywho, she had these tiny paper houses with little lights in them... I was in awe of them. I would sit, for hours, with my chin on the edge of the table staring at these little houses. So, in the spirit of that memory, I wanted to re-create those little warm and fuzzy feelings and.. well, put it onto a cake of course!
I wanted something light, like paper. Somewhat translucent, like paper. So, my obvious choice was Wafer Paper for my houses! So, yeah, you can eat them. Here come the Wafer Paper Light Up Houses!
Plus, BONUS, it's another "quick and easy" (depending on how many details you want to add) last-minute Christmas/winter themed cake topper! Just like the trees you see next to them. But of course, you can use these any time of year... dress them up however you like! Although, a word of caution, be careful not to put too much weight on them with too much decor.
And yes, you can use these templates with real paper too 😉
As you can see I adorned my lil ole' house with GLITTER. And yes, it will be all over EVERYTHING until next Christmas. Tis the price we pay for that good ole' pretty sparkly stuff. You can learn how to make your own EDIBLE glitter here.
**DO NOT USE REAL CANDLE IN THESE PAPER HOUSES**
There ya go, I said it... might be stating the obvious, but better safe than sorry. Not sure if it would go up in flames, but I hear burning potato starch is a smell you save only for your worst enemy. I used these little battery powered lights that look like candles.
This little project requires very few tools, mostly things you already have on hand if you are in the craft-lovin' family 🙂 I went ahead and pulled out my Martha Stweard paper punchers... cause you know, gotta use these babies every chance we get! I love when my guests say "Did you cut those by hand?" and I say "Sorta.." *smirk*
And then, of course, I wouldn't let you go into this BLIND! We need templates! You can download them in the links at the bottom of the page.
